This eBook is a collection of five vampire stories by various authors. “Dracula” by Bram Stoker is certainly the most famous vampire story in English literature but other excellent tales – contained in this eBook – either influenced or were influenced by Stokers masterpiece. This eBook contains:
+Dracula by Bram Stoker (first published in 1897).
+Draculas Guest by Bram Stoker: This short story – first published in 1914 – is thought by many to be the first chapter of the novel “Dracula,” considered unnecessary in the final publication. In the story, an unnamed protagonist (usually assumed to be Jonathan Harker, a character in the novel “Dracula”) encounters a malevolent spirit on his way to visit Count Dracula.
+Carmilla by J. Sheridan LeFanu: This novel, first published in 1872, relates a young womans encounter with a female vampire, Carmilla. Carmilla has served as a prototype for several lesbian vampires occuring in later literature.
+The House of the Vampire by George Sylvester Viereck. This story, published in 1907, contains the first example of a gay male vampire. The monster is also a psychic vampire in the sense that it consumes psychic energy as well as blood from its victims.
+The Vampyre by John Polidori: This is the first vampire story published in English (in 1819). The story follows Lord Ruthven, an aristocratic vampire whose victims are also members of the upper classes. The story was originally attributed to Lord Byron, for whom Polidori acted for a time as personal physician.
